Perlane®

Dr. Thomas Leach, Medical Director of Princeton Center for Plastic Surgery offers several injectable fillers for the improvement of wrinkles and increase lost collagen volume in the facial areas.

Perlane® is one of these fillers that is similar to Restylane® in that it is a hyaluronic acid facial filler. The molecule is larger than the Restylane® molecule and more suitable for injection into deeper facial wrinkles and facial depressions. It was FDA approved as of May of 2007.

Perlane® is made from non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA) gel. This means that Perlane® contains no animal products. Since hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the skin and other tissues, there is no need to have a skin test before using. The results of a Perlane® filler treatment tend to last six months to a year, if either enough volume was injected at the initial treatment or if a second treatment is given within a month after the first injection. This is much longer than the typical results of collagen injections, which may last only 3 months. It is commonly used for wrinkle correction, diminishing worry lines, smile lines, frown lines, marionette lines and smoker's lines.

Also it can be used for lip enhancement and reducing the severity of nasolabial folds. Other correction that have been found to work with Perlane® are for chin augmentation, filling cheek depressions, redefining lip border and softening acne scars. These are just a few of the uses for Perlane®.
