As we age our skin begins to lose some of its elasticity. This is particularly true for breast tissue as women often find as they age their breasts begins to lose their firmness and shape. In other words, the breast begins to sag. Factors such as pregnancy and nursing also contribute to sagging breasts.
At Princeton Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Thomas Leach, board certified plastic surgeon, and Medical Director, has performed hundreds of breast lifts to help women look and feel better.
WHY HAVE MASTOPEXY (BREAST LIFT) SURGERY?
Mastopexy also know as breast lift surgery, restores the breasts to a more youthful state. By lifting and tightening the breast tissue most women feel a breast lift helps to restore contour to their body.
Many women have breast lift surgery because their breasts are sagging due to:
- Weight gain and loss
- Aging on loss of fat and thinning of breast tissue
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding
- Gravity’s effect on breast tissue
If sagging breasts bother you, we can help. Often mastopexy is performed along with breasts augmentation surgery. During your consultation with Dr. Thomas Leach, he can help you decide how to achieve a more proportioned shape and contour.
MASTOPEXY (BREAST LIFT) SURGERY AND RECOVERY
Breast lift surgery is done as an outpatient surgical procedure under general anesthesia and takes from two to four hours. Most breast lifts are done using three small incisions. One incision is made around the areola, the second incision is made vertically from the areola on the underside of the breasts, and the third is a horizontal incision around the curve of the breasts. This technique allows Dr. Thomas Leach to expertly remove the excess breast tissue and reposition the breasts so they are positioned higher on the chest.
Patients return home after breast lift surgery with instructions to wear a bra and very small bandages on the incisions. Dr. Leach recommends wearing the bra for support for two to three weeks. Avoidance of strenuous activities is recommended.
