Are You Tired Of Your Sagging Breasts?
Women experiencing drooping or sagging breasts because of aging and/or pregnancy, may decide to have a breast lift. As we age our skin begins to lose some of its elasticity. This is particularly true for breast tissue. Women often find that their breasts begin to lose their firmness and shape in their 30s and it only gets worse as they get older. In other words, the breasts begin to sag.
Factors such as pregnancy and nursing also contribute to drooping breasts. Fortunately, a breast lift may be available to restore your breasts to your youthful perkiness. A breast lift, with or without implants (breast augmentation), is an excellent cosmetic surgical procedure to lift and tighten breast tissue. Many women may also select to increase the size and/ or shape of their breast during the procedure.
At the Princeton Center for Plastic Surgery, Dr. Thomas Leach, board-certified plastic surgeon, and Medical Director, has performed hundreds of breast lifts to help women look and feel better.
Why Should You Choose Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Surgery?
Before
After
Mastopexy also known as breast lift surgery, restores the breasts to a more firm and lifted state. By lifting and tightening the breast tissue, most women feel a breast lift helps to restore contour to their body. Many women have breast lift surgery because their breasts are sagging due to:
- Aging, loss of fat, and thinning of breast tissue
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding
- Gravity’s effect on breast tissue
- Weight gain and loss
If you are feeling that your breasts are not as “perky” as they were when you were younger, schedule a personalized appointment with Dr. Thomas Leach. He will confirm if you are a good candidate for a breast lift and help you decide how to achieve a more proportioned shape and contour.
Mastopexy (Breast Lift) Surgery & Recovery
Breast lift surgery is done as an outpatient surgical procedure under general anesthesia and typically takes from 2 to 4 hours. The specific surgery is completely dependent both on what the patient currently looks like and her desired outcome. In addition to reshaping the breast, Dr. Leach has the option to maintain the current volume or enlarge or reduce the overall size of the breasts. The issue for most patients is that the skin envelope is larger than needed for the amount of breast tissue they now have. Dr. Leach can reduce the skin envelope, refill the envelope with an implant or transfer fat, or do a combination skin tightening and breast filling.
Dr. Leach meets with all his prospective patients at least twice before their surgery to be sure she is clear on what she desires, and to ensure she is clear on the realistic outcome. At the final pre-opt visit the specifics of the surgery, including desired size and the placement of incisions (scar locations) are discussed at length.
Patients return home after breast lift surgery with special tape over the incision sites and wear a compression bra. Most patients can get wet and shower in 48 hours. Sutures are removed in about a week and patients will then begin wearing a bra that will help maintain the final shape of their breasts.
Activity recommendations depend on exactly what procedure was done but within two weeks all normal day-to-day activities are resumed.
Dr. Leach has been in practice for more than 29 years and is an expert board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who can help you lift your breasts up to a natural-looking and youthful height.
