Why Should You Consider Facial/ Neck Liposuction?
Facial/ Neck liposuction (or liposculpture) is an alternative for those patients who do not desire a facelift or neck lift. You may be a good candidate for liposuction of the face and neck if you have concerns about:
- Excess chin fat (double chin)
- Excess neck fat or “turkey waddle”
- Jowling
- Round or “chubby” cheeks
Facial liposculpture is a minimally invasive technique that is an option to reshape the contours of face and neck with the targeted removal of fat.
If you have excess neck fat, facial liposuction can remove the excess fat from the lower tissue of the neck and sculpt your neck to a more pleasing contour. Dr. Thomas Leach also can perform facial liposculpture on the chin, cheeks and jowls, and the neck to reduce your double chin, reduce your jowls and improve your profile.
Who Are The Best Candidates For Facial Liposuction?
Patients aged 20 through 60 with excess fatty deposits in their cheek, chin and neck and have good skin tone and skin elasticity are typically the best candidates for liposuction. You may be a good candidate for facial liposuction if you have excess facial/ neck fat and have adequate skin and muscle tone, specifically in the neck. Dr. Leach advises patients with lax muscles in their neck that a muscle tightening procedure, called platysmaplasty, can often be done at the same time.
Some patients may select complementary procedures to achieve their overall facial reshaping and renewal goals. These procedures include:
Dr. Leach will discuss your options in detail during your consultation.
Neck & Facial Liposuction Surgery & Recovery
Dr. Leach is a Board Certified Cosmetic, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and performs his facial/ neck liposuction procedures in his office using oral sedation and tumescent anesthesia (saturating the areas to be treated with a sterile fluid mixture that contains lidocaine).
Dr. Leach uses the Smartlipo Cynosure Laser to enhance the neck rejuvenation. This laser works by placing a laser fiber under the skin through three tiny incisions. The laser is used on one power setting to disrupt/melt the fat cells to make removal easier and to improve the contour of the neck. A second laser pass is then made at different energy settings to fractionally disrupt the deeper inner surface of the skin- this ultimately results in increased collagen production and additional tightening of the skin. Dr. Leach is then able to suction out the melted fat through the same three holes using very thin cannulas. This enhanced skin tightening allows us to treat patients who may not have ideal skin tone and to get even better results on those with healthier skin.
After you undergo facial liposuction, you may experience some swelling, numbness, burning, and/or tingling around the incision site. These symptoms are normal and temporary, and they resolve.
Patients will notice improvements over several months as your skin continues to tighten, and the incisions heal until they are barely visible.
Facial liposuction patients should maintain a healthy lifestyle and continue to diet and exercise. While the targeted fatty deposits that are removed are gone for good, patients who gain a large amount of weight might see rippling in the treated areas. If weight gain occurs following liposuction, the fat will be deposited in areas that have not been treated.
